Doesn't cotton shrink? +

Cotton shrinks once, by 3–5%, on the first hot wash/dry cycle. Then it stops.

  • Our garments are pre-shrunk — the fit you buy is the fit you keep.
  • Wash cold and hang dry, and you prevent 95% of even that initial shrinkage.

And polyester's “no shrink” claim? Polyester doesn't shrink because it's literally plastic. It does, however, melt under high heat, stretch and warp at seams, and pill and deteriorate faster than cotton. The “cotton shrinks” argument is a marketing myth promoted by the synthetic fiber industry.

Why 100% cotton? Isn't polyester cheaper? +

Up front, yes. Over time, absolutely not.

FactorPolyester Shirt ($12)CottonTruth ($24.99)
Initial cost$12$24.99
Lifespan1–2 years3–5+ years
Cost per year$6–12$5–8
5-year total~$30–60~$25–42

Polyester costs 30% less to buy but 50–100% more to own. It pills, holes, and retains odors within 1–2 years, forcing replacement. Add the hidden costs — 700,000 microplastics shed per wash, 200-year decomposition, formaldehyde treatments — and it's not cheaper. It's subsidized by your health and the planet.

How should I care for my cotton? +

Two rules: cold wash, hang dry. That's it.

  • Cold wash prevents shrinkage and preserves fiber strength.
  • Hang dry (or tumble on low) keeps the fit you bought.
  • Real cotton can wrinkle — hang it damp or give it two minutes with a steamer. We consider that a fair trade for not wearing formaldehyde resin.
  • Expect garments to soften and mold to you over the first month. That's what real cotton does.
Why should I care about microplastics? +

Because they're in your body right now.

  • The average person consumes about 5 grams of plastic per week — a credit card's worth.
  • Microplastics have been found in human blood, lung tissue, breast milk, and placentas.
  • 35% of all microplastics in the ocean come from washing synthetic clothing.

Every polyester shirt you wash contributes to this problem. Every cotton shirt you choose instead contributes zero. You don't need to save the planet with one purchase — but you can stop actively polluting it with every load of laundry.

Is this a real company? Where are your products made? +

Yes. CottonTruth is a real, US-based clothing brand started by people who got tired of wearing plastic.

  • We sell only 100% cotton. No blends, no exceptions.
  • Our cotton is sourced from US cotton farms (Texas, Georgia, and the Carolinas).
  • Garments are cut and sewn in facilities that follow fair labor practices, and the product page tells you where your specific shirt was made.

We're not perfect, and we won't claim to be. But we will always be honest about where our products come from.

Why not “cotton blends” or recycled polyester? +

A blend = part plastic. We don't do plastic.

And “recycled polyester” is still polyester — it still sheds microplastics with every wash and still takes centuries to decompose. Making plastic slightly more guilt-free doesn't make it not plastic. That's the greenwashing we built this brand to refuse.
